Bladder Cancer

It occurs when cells in the bladder grow out of control, and when this happens, the body cannot function as it should.

A person with bladder cancer will have one or more bladder tumours. We don't know all the causes of bladder cancer, but there are certain things that can increase your risk:

  • Smoking or inhaling tobacco smoke.
  • Limit your exposure to chemicals at work.
  • Family history of bladder cancer.
  • Maintain a well-balanced diet.

Symptoms

  • Haematuria (blood in the urine): the most common symptom.
  • Frequent and urgent urination, painful urination (dysuria).
  • Pain in the lower abdomen and/or back.

Make an appointment if you notice blood in your urine, even if the blood disappears, or if you have any problems urinating. We will assist you with any questions you may have.
