Kidney Stones

They are hard deposits made of minerals and salts that form inside the kidneys.

We are highly trained and experienced in resolving complex kidney stones. There are multiple minimally invasive procedures that can remove 100% of kidney stones without the need for conventional open surgery.

  • They can affect everything from the kidneys to the bladder.
  • Spontaneous expulsion them can be very painful.
  • They do not normally cause permanent damage if detected early.

In women, they are often associated with urinary tract infections (struvite stones). There are many different types of kidney stones, the most common being calcium, struvite, uric acid, crystals and oxalate. Knowing the type of kidney stone you have helps determine its cause and gives an indication of how to lower the risk of kidney stone recurrence.

Risk factors:

  • Family or personal history, dehydration, certain diets, obesity, surgery and digestive diseases; certain supplements and medications.

The pain is caused by the kidney stone obstructing the flow of urine, causing the kidney to swell and the ureter to spasm.

  • Pain spreading to the lower abdomen, groin or genital region.
  • Pain that comes in waves and fluctuates in intensity.
